Your House Building Guide
So you are thinking about buying a house but don’t know what to expect? That’s fair enough, if you have never built a house before it can feel like a daunting task with a lot of building jargon you may not have heard before.
MPM Property have put together the below steps to help guide you through the building process.
STAGE ONE - Getting the Site Ready
Prior to construction commencing, there are several tasks that need to be completed, including:
• Clearing and levelling the block
• Installing safety measures, such as temporary fencing if required
STAGE TWO - Laying the Foundation
When the site is ready, further earthworks can begin. This includes:
• Digging trenches for plumbing rough-ins, where pipes are laid before the slab
• Formwork, which shapes the concrete, along with the placement of steel reinforcement
• Pouring the concrete slab that forms the foundation for the rest of the home
STAGE THREE - Putting Up the Frame
When the site is ready, further earthworks can begin. This includes:

STAGE FOUR - Lock-up Stage

You may have heard this term before, as it was once a common stage at which buyers would purchase a property. These days, buyers and builders typically move towards full turnkey house and land packages. Essentially, the lock-up stage means the home is secured from external elements with the addition of: |
STAGE FIVE - Fixing Stage
This is where the house starts to feel like a home, as all internal elements are installed. This stage includes:
• Internal linings to walls and ceilings
• Waterproofing of wet areas
• Installation of cabinetry, benchtops, and joinery
• Tiling, painting, and flooring
• Electrical fit-off, including power points, fans, lighting, and air conditioning
• Plumbing fit-off, including installation of taps, showerheads, and toilets
STAGE SIX - Practical Completion
This is the stage where you get to inspect your new property. Some builders also allow an inspection approximately three weeks before practical completion. Practical completion is also the stage where:
• Landscaping is completed if you have purchased a full turnkey package
• Final cleaning takes place
